What does NYMT do?
We offer world-class opportunities to actors and instrumental musicians between the ages of 10 and 23, as well as young creatives and technicians between the ages of 16 and 23.
Whether you’re a beginner or a young adult on the verge of a professional career, there’s something here for you.
Our pathways
If you like singing, acting and dance, and are aged between 10 and 23, our actor opportunities are for you.
Do you play an instrument? Interested in playing in a pit band or an orchestra in a show? Aged 10–23? Our musician opportunities are for you.
Want to become a director? Or perhaps a choreographer? How about working backstage or in sound or lighting? Our Creative & Production Pathway is for young people aged 16–23.
How does it work?
We work to an annual cycle. Each year we stage productions in professional theatres and run workshops and courses, all involving young people supported by industry professionals.
Many of our opportunities are available only to those who attend one of our audition workshop days in January and February. If you're a young actor or musician, you can book an audition and come and spend a day with us. We'll then offer you a place on one of our courses, or a role in one of our productions or workshops, depending on what we think is best for you at your stage of development.
If you're applying for our Creative & Production Pathway, you'll instead attend some online sessions and an interview.
We also offer courses during the year that you can just book without attending one of our auditions. These are generally available from around April onwards, but keep an eye on our website.

Audition Workshop Days and Interviews
Many of our opportunities are offered to young actors and musicians who attend our Audition Workshop Days. These take place between January and February at locations around the UK and are open to young people aged 10-23 of any experience level. Interviews are for people applying to our Creative and Production Pathway.

Productions
Our industry-standard productions are a highlight of the year. We usually produce three or four shows a year. These productions have young people on stage, in the orchestra or band, behind the scenes and on the creative team.
These are fully residential experiences, often with a week's rehearsal during the Easter holidays, and two further weeks in the summer, culminating in public performances in a professional theatre.

Workshops of New Musicals
NYMT has a rich history of commissioning and developing new pieces of music theatre, and our young people are at the heart of this process. Our residential New Musical Workshops are an opportunity to shape the journey of a new piece of music theatre by learning and performing new songs and scenes while giving crucial feedback to the composer and writer.

Courses
There are courses too, giving you the opportunity to develop your skills with our outstanding professionals. And they're not just acting, singing and dancing courses, either: we offer courses for young technicians, composers and creatives. Some of these courses are offered only to young people who attend our annual auditions, while others are available for anyone to book.

Residentials
Many of our projects are residential, giving you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the full NYMT experience. Our renowned pastoral team oversees an experience that is safe and supportive for young people of all ages.

Fees & Bursaries
Each opportunity has its own fee level, depending on the length and nature of the project or course. Most of our opportunities are available with a payment plan.
We rely on donations to offer bursaries to those who would be unable to accept an offer from us without it. If you are in this position, speak to us. We want finance never to be a barrier to anyone wanting to get involved.
