To take part with us as a musician, you'll need to take part in an audition. These open for booking each year in mid-October, and run through to mid-February.
Auditioning with us
To audition with us as a musician, we'll ask you to submit a short self-tape (5 minutes maximum) and to join us for an ensemble workshop audition if you're able to.
Booking opens in mid-October. You can submit a self tape any time after booking and the deadline in mid-February.
The ensemble workshop auditions take place around the UK in January and February, and you'll select which one you want to attend when you book your audition. They last approximately 2.5 hours and are an opportunity to play alongside other musicians, to demonstrate how you work as an ensemble musician, and to meet other people also applying to NYMT.
At the end of the session is a Q&A with the Musical Director, giving you the opportunity to ask anything you like about NYMT or the industry more generally.
If you aren't able to attend one of the ensemble workshops, you can choose the option to submit a self-tape only.
Once you sign up to an audition workshop, we'll send you all the information you need to prepare. After the audition workshop, you may be invited to join one of our productions.
Our musicians' audition has a £25 fee.

These are dates for our 2027 ensemble workshop auditions.
We will ask all musicians to submit a short self tape (maximum length 5 minutes) in addition to attending an ensemble workshop audition if possible. If you can't attend, you can select the option when booking to submit a self-tape only.

We will be announcing our 2027 projects on 26 October.
These opportunites will be open to young actors, instrumental musicians and young creative and production assistants. To take any role in one of our productions, you'll need to attend an audition or interview.
NYMT is a DofE Approved Activity Provider. All our residential workshops and productions are qualifying Gold Award residentials.

FEES
NYMT fees vary from course to course, project to project. We're a charity (non-profit) and we work hard to keep fees as low as we can while maintaining the high quality of what we do.
We never want finances to be a barrier. We provide our Young Company Members with a fundraising guide and we offer various bursaries at a range of levels.
