In January and February we shall be auditioning throughout the UK to find outstanding young people aged 10-23 for our 2018 Company! Applications open online here from October. Take your place in over 40 years of musical theatre history by auditioning for the award-winning National Youth Music Theatre.

Stage Performers

Participants will work with experienced practitioners and alongside some of the UK’s leading Lighting and Sound Designers, Technicians and Wardrobe Supervisors.

Stage, technical and wardrobe crew join the cast, musicians and creative teams for residential rehearsals - followed by the production week.

The NYMT offers unparalleled opportunities for musicians wishing to gain experience performing in a pit orchestra, on-stage band or as actor-musicians.

We seek outstanding young musicians (approx. Grade 7+) for all our productions.

Creative Mentoring Scheme

The NYMT Creative Team Mentoring Scheme offers places to Assistant Directors, Choreographers, Musical Directors, Designers and Wardrobe Supervisors. We are able to offer such opportunities to those aiming to work professionally in the performing arts who have recently graduated from – or are about to complete courses at – university, drama school, college, conservatoire or other higher education institutions.

You will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the UK’s leading practitioners.  Those who are currently working – or have recently worked – with the NYMT include:

Directors: Nikolai Foster, Hannah Chissick, Sara Kestelman, Shaun Kerrison, Jason Robert Brown, Kate Golledge, Jake Smith, Jordan Murphy, Martin Constantine, Sarah Redmond, Lotte Wakeham, Andy Pearson and Jeremy James Taylor.

Musical Directors: Sarah Travis, Mark Collins, Tom Deering, Torquil Munro, Peter White, Charlie Ingles, Michael Bradley, Francis Goodhand, Joe Bunker, Candida Caldicot, Benjamin Holder, Nicholas Chave, Paul Frankish and Alex Aitken.

Choreographers: Nick Winston, Lee Proud, Matt Flint, Drew McOnie, Tim Jackson, Chris Cuming, Kay Shepherd, Cristian Valle, Ewan Jones, Katie Beard, Matt Hawksworth, Anthony Whiteman, Sam Spencer-Lane, Lucie Pankhurst and Darragh O’Leary.

Costume Supervisors: Anne-Marie Horton, Chrissy Maddison, Debbie Bennett, Natasha Mackmurdie, Fran Jegar, Zlatka Halkova, Jessica Houghton and Fiona Lockton.

ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGEMENT, TECHNICAL CREW & WARDROBE

NYMT offers unrivalled opportunities for young people aged 16 to 23 to work on major productions as Deputy and Assistant Stage Managers, as Assistant Lighting and Sound Technicians and as Wardrobe Assistants.

Participants will work with experienced practitioners and alongside some of the UK’s leading Lighting and Sound Designers, Technicians and Wardrobe Supervisors. 

If you are interested in any of these aspects of theatre, the NYMT provides the perfect opportunity for you to advance your skills and be involved in exciting, professionally led productions in outstanding venues. 

Stage, technical and wardrobe crew join the cast, musicians and creative teams for residential rehearsals - followed by the production week - in summer. Some stage management assistance will usually also be required for a week of rehearsals at Easter.

COURSE FEES

We endeavour to keep course fees as low as possible but, unfortunately, we do have to cover increasing costs of venue hire, accommodation, meals, pastoral care and all tuition fees during our residential periods. The fees do vary, depending largely on the duration of each course, but here are some guidelines. These are approximate indications only at this stage.

Course fees are payable in installments and we provide help for all participants on how to raise funds for themselves. We'll send you a specially written guide that’s packed with great ideas and we would encourage all participants to undertake fundraising activities for themselves and others. We're also here to provide advice if you need it.
