As we wrapped up another unforgettable NYMT season, one thing we all agreed on was how important music is to the experience—not just the show tunes, but the tracks that kept us energized during rehearsals, warm-ups, and downtime. That’s why we’ve pulled together The NYMT 2024 Playlist, a company-created collection of songs that carried us through the highs, lows, and everything in between. Whether it was for daily warm-ups, dance rehearsals, or just shaking off the intensity of the day in the boarding houses, here’s a glimpse of the tracks that were the soundtrack of our summer.
- Runaway by Bruno Mars, Promises by Sam Smith, River by Bishop Briggs – Added by choreographer Chris W. and used for daily warm up tracks for Lightning Boy
- Fixer Upper – Added by Matt G., used for Company Class in West End Dance
- HOTTOGO – Added by Hattie C., the go-to bop when we needed to shake off some serious work during the New Musical Workshops!
- Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter – Added by Charlie H., used for physical warm-ups on the first performance day of Crescendo. Fun fact: on the last day of our summer performances, Sabrina Carpenter held the #1, #2, and #3 spots in the charts!
- Baggy Trousers – Added by the company of Our House
- New York, This is the Place and If I Believed from Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) – Added by Erin B. for the company of Catastrophe Bay, written by our very own Jim Barne and Kit Buchan, the masterminds behind Catastrophe Bay.
- Get Dat by Rayelle – Added by Steve K., choreographer of The Boy Who Sailed the Ocean in an Armchair. Used for warmup and apparently everyone loved it, especially Laurie – so this one is a dedication!
- Superstition by Stevie Wonder – added by Lee F. as an homage to the Our House band providing the funk for warm up!
- Thunderstruck by AC/DC – added by Thomas S. with the following cryptic message: ‘Our Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders recreation’
- YAYA by Beyoncé which we used in our physical warm up for Crescendo, and Good Luck Babe by Chappelle Roan which we danced to after rehearsals one night at Canterbury with others from Into the Woods and Armchair – added by Tochi A.
- Hello Pretty Lady, No One is Alone, Giants Somewhere from Losing My Mind: A Sondheim Disco Fever Dream album – added by Maya W. via Nick C. and the Into the Woods Company
- L-O-V-E by Young Original - added by Chris C and used for stretch cool in Mega Company Warm Up.
These songs became the rhythm of our summer, and we hope they can bring a bit of that NYMT magic to you too. 🎶
