Huge congratulations to two NYMT alumni recognised in the 2026 New Year Honours by His Majesty King Charles III.
Idris Elba becomes Sir Idris for his services to young people, recognising his work supporting young people – in particular through the Elba Hope Foundation. Sir Idris was, as a teenager, given a £1,500 grant by The Prince's Trust to attend NYMT. Speaking at a youth crime summit in 2018, he said: "I am a product of intervention. When I was 15 years old, The Prince's Trust gave me an opportunity and that opportunity came from a drama teacher who was a mentor."
Another alumnus who has had an extraordinary impact on and beyond the stage is Matt Lucas, who has been appointed an OBE for his services to drama, recognising his work as a comedian, actor and writer. Matt continues to be an extraordinary supporter of NYMT's work.
Congratulations, Idris and Matt!
