HOW TO APPLY FOR AUDITION
AS A MUSICIAN
Despite these uncertain times, we have some wonderful plans in store for our 2021 season and, as ever,
we are in search of young people aged 10 to 23 who have a passion for musical theatre.
You may have lots of previous experience or none; we’re looking for potential.
We shall be producing three great musicals: the première of NYMT’s most recent commission, a new realisation of another, and a very large-scale production in a cathedral of a spectacular Disney musical.
Full details of all these can be found here.
For all our productions we are seeking outstanding young musicians who have a love of musical theatre and wish to gain experience in a pit band under the direction of leading industry professionals.
As a guide, you would probably be at approx. Grade 7 level or above but it doesn’t matter if you haven’t taken any grades.
Unfortunately, we are not able to hold our usual workshop auditions at venues around the UK.
Instead, we’re asking you to submit a self-tape.
Full instructions for this are below and we’ve even prepared a video with some helpful tips.
Please be sure to watch the video before you start your application online.
HOW IT WORKS
- Online applications are open now and throughout January.
- Closing date for 1st round applications is Sunday 31 January.
- The application fee is £10
- Successful applicants may be invited to attend
a recall audition, online or in person.
- There is no fee for attending recalls.
Our creative teams are really excited to discover young talent from all across the UK.
We’d like to hear you play a piece of music that you enjoy and that demonstrates your technique and musicality.
If you play more than one instrument, please make a separate recording of each.
We’d like to hear your principal instrument first and then just short extracts on any others.
Don’t forget to introduce yourself - tell us your name, how old you are and where you come from.
You can tell us an interesting fact about yourself, too, if you like!
Feel free to use a backing track or a pianist, if necessary,
but just make sure we can hear you, loud and clear.
When your videos are complete, please save these as separate videos (or merge them together, if you like) and upload them to YouTube, Vimeo or a file sharing site like Dropbox, for example.
You will need to provide the URL links to your videos, so please be sure to have these ready when you make your application.
Once your application is complete, press submit and you’ll be redirected to the secure payment site via PayPal.
N.B. You do not need a PayPal account; just select payment by debit or credit card.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Once we have received your application, your videos will be forwarded to our creative team.
Please bear with us as the team will want to take time and care! We’ll let you know the outcome just as soon as we can.
