AMARA OKEREKE WINS STAGE DEBUT AWARD
We're thrilled and proud to share the news that Amara Okereke has won The Stage debut award for Best Actress in a Musical.
Amara's first appearance with NYMT was in 2012 as Cassie in our West End premiere of 13 directed by the composer/lyricist, Jason Robert Brown. The following year she played Maria in our epic production of West Side Story at the Victoria Warehouse Manchester directed by Nikolai Foster and choreographed by Drew McOnie. In 2014, Amara starred as Emily Tallentire in The Hired Man at the St James Theatre, again directed by Nikolai Foster. She then went on to train at the Arts Educational School, London.
The Best Actress in a Musical title was awarded to Amara for her iconic performance in Les Misérables at the Queen's Theatre, London, where she made history as the first black actress to play the role of Cosette.
