1. STAGE PERFORMERS

HOW DO I AUDITION?
Online applications via this website are open from October. You then just need to select your preferred audition venue and date, complete the form and proceed to the secure online payment system with Paypal. The audition fee is £48.

WHAT FORM DOES THE AUDITION TAKE? Our auditions take the form of an all-day workshop in three classes: Acting, Singing and Movement. Each of these classes lasts about 1 hr 45 mins and they're in groups organised by age.

DO I NEED TO PREPARE ANYTHING FOR MY AUDITION? You will just need to prepare a musical theatre song of your choice. It should be approx. 2 mins duration, so you might need to make some judicious cuts, which should be clearly marked for our accompanist. No other preparation is required. Everything else will be taught and workshopped on the day.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING? Sheet music of your chosen song for the accompanist (no backing tracks, please). Wear loose clothing suitable for dance/movement. A water bottle labelled with your name. A packed lunch & snacks for the breaks.

CAN I CHOOSE THE PRODUCTION FOR WHICH I’D LIKE TO BE CONSIDERED? You can state a preference, if you wish. Otherwise all applicants will be considered for all productions. If you know that you would not be available for any of the relevant dates, it would be helpful to let us know in advance.

WHEN WILL I GET THE RESULTS AND WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? We try to get results back within a week of the audition. If successful at the first audition, you will be asked to attend a recall to be auditioned specifically for one or more of our productions. You will then be sent some material to prepare for the recall. This usually consists of a song or extracts of songs and, perhaps, some dialogue. After the recalls, we shall cast our productions and let everyone know the results within a few days.

WHEN DO THE REHEARSALS AND PRODUCTIONS TAKE PLACE? Auditions generally run from 11am to 5pm on Saturdays or Sundays throughout January and February. Recalls take place over the final weekend of 17 and 18 February. You would be needed for some time on only one of these days. First residential rehearsals take place during the Easter holiday. Second residential rehearsals take place one or two weeks prior to the production week itself in late July or in August.

IF I AM SELECTED FOR THE NYMT COMPANY, HOW MUCH WILL IT COST? The course fees are based on the cost to NYMT of food and accommodation for the rehearsal and production periods. They also go towards the costs of tuition and pastoral care. We endeavour to keep the fees as low as possible. There is likely to be a range from £625 to £1,790, depending on the duration of the course. Bursaries are available upon application in cases of need and we provide helpful information on fund raising.
