Please help us raise funds for the BRASS Cast Trip to The Somme Battlefield
The cast of the 2016 production of BRASS (and some of the show's original cast) are going to France!
BRASS tells the story of a Leeds-based brass band whose members sign up to fight in the First World War. In their absence, their womenfolk attempt to learn the instruments the men have left behind so that they can play for them when they return from war. The real Leeds Pals suffered unimaginable losses when they went over the top on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, July 1st, 1916.
Brass returns to the Hackney Empire in August 2016 and the cast are going on a unique research trip to France. A coach will leave Leeds on Saturday 25th June, drive through the night and arrive in the Somme area of France at dawn, where the cast will pay their respects to the Leeds Pals by playing the Last Post at the very spot, and the exact time, where they went over the top, 100 years ago.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all concerned. A deeply moving journey of discovery. The average age of the cast is identical to the average age of the real Leeds Pals, and many of the cast come from Yorkshire.
We are fundraising for the trip, and still need to raise £1,400.
If you have a few pounds which you might be able to donate, we would be hugely grateful.
If you can afford as much as £50, your name will be displayed on a special film the young people will be putting together when they’re out in France.
With thanks for your support,
